Notice periods and move-out — what tenants should know in Uganda
Moving out in Uganda is two jobs: finding the next place and closing the current chapter without losing your deposit. Notice periods only work when both sides know the rules they agreed to.
Read your agreement first
Some leases ask one month, others three. If nothing is written, agree notice in writing before you assume.
Handover inspection
Walk the landlord through the property with your move-in photos. Normal wear is not damage. Pre-existing issues should not come from your deposit.
Final rent and utilities
Clear last month rent, shared bills, and keys return — document all in one thread.
Forwarding address
Keep a phone number active for deposit refund discussions. MoMo refunds need a number that works.
This is practical guidance for renters and landlords in Uganda — not legal advice. For disputes, consult a qualified professional.
What we are not saying
We are not saying every agent is bad. We are not saying every Facebook ad is a scam. We are not saying an app replaces visiting the property.
We are saying you deserve a rental market where location and price are not mysteries — and where founders do not inflate numbers to impress investors.
